Brent Marris, the owner and winemaker of The Ned, was one of Marlborough region's first born and raised qualified winemakers, graduating from Roseworthy Agricultural College (South Australia) in 1983 with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Oenology (winemaking).  Wth more than 20 years grape growing, winemaking and marketing experience, his history of crafting wines for the world are a testament to his skilll and passion.

Brent describes his new 268 hectare property on the banks of the Waihopai River as exceptional.  He says it flows over three distinct terraces of clays and ancient river shingles providing the fruit variation and complexity that a wine maker can normally only dream of from a single vineyard site. This property has new plantings of grape vines so in 2007 and 2008, the Ned offered a simple range of premium wines sourced from the best fruit of the valley.  The range include varietals for which Marlborough is renowned – Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir.

2009 should be heralded as the vintage of the decade.  On the Waihopai River vineyard some of the coolest nights ever during the ripening period were experienced, followed by long hot days.  The Ned's viticultural team carefully exposed bunches and ensured balanced crop loading.  This resulted in lovely concentrated flavours from all three grape varieties cultivated.
